Background

Following the hugely successful celebration of the Wales Air Ambulance tenth anniversary at Gŵyl Gobaith Music Festival in 2011, Rhys Meirion, the international Opera star and member of iconic welsh trio, The Three Welsh Tenors, is the Ambassador for the Wales Air Ambulance this year.

As part of his support for the Air Ambulance during the year, Rhys is determined to bring his friends together to raise significant money and awareness and particularly to support the 'Leap into Action' appeal for the new helicopter to be based at Welshpool Airport.

Cerddwn Ymlaen Rhys MeirionOver the past three years Rhys has played his part in establishing a Music Festival in Northop, Flintshire, called The Gŵyl Gobaith Music Festival and The Wales Air Ambulance was one of the charities that was supported last year, nominated by one of the Main Sponsors, Wind Power Wales. The Festival will be held this year on August 24th to the 27th and The Wales Air Ambulance will be one of the charities being supported.

The Walk

The 200 mile walk will be completed over eight days. The project will be launched with a gala dinner at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea on Thursday, August 16th, and the walk will commence at Swansea Airport at 8am on Friday August the 17th.
The route will take us up the Neath Valley, Storey Arms, Brecon, Builth, Newtown and Welshpool Airport. From there we will travel via Dinas Mawddwy, Dolgellau, Porthmadog and finishing in Caernarfon Airport.

Evening Entertainment

The walk will have eight overnight stops at some of Wales' most iconic hotels and there will be entertainment and fundraising activities at each evening stop. We will be joined by some of Wales's top musical acts and some international stars too - have a look at the events section for the details.

The Walkers

Rhys will be joined by a number of family, friends and colleagues who will walk the whole 200 miles. Some celebrities and guest walkers will be with us for sections of the walk, and members of the public are welcome to join us for a number of designated off-road sections.
