Whilst the Peace Run has visited Wales in the past this will be it's first ever visit to Portmeirion, and they will meet Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas who will oficially welcome the Peace Run to Wales. Also there to meet the Run will be Robin Llywelyn (Managing Director Portmeirion Ltd).

What is the Peace Run

The Peace Run is a global relay that seeks to promote international friendship and understanding. Since its inception in 1987 the Run has traversed over 100 nations and touched the lives of millions of people. Formerly known as The World Harmony Run, The Peace Run does not seek to raise money or highlight any political cause, but simply strives to create goodwill among peoples of all nations.

The runners carry with them a peace torch. By passing the torch from one person to the next along the route, the relay offers people from many nations the opportunity to express their hopes and dreams for a better, brighter future. People from all walks of life hold the symbolic torch to wish for a peaceful world. Passing the torch from one person to the next unites us together in our common aspiration to offer something positive to our world - together we can make a difference!

All are welcome to meet the Peace Run, run with the Peace Run, hold the peace torch andNelson Mandela make their own wish for peace. Others who have done this include Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Mikhail Gorbachev, Carl Lewis, Mohammed Ali, Rhodri Morgan, Alun Michael, Lord Elis-Thomas and Rosemary Butler.

'As patron of the Sri Chinmoy Oneness - Home Peace Run, I should like to express a message of peace and goodwill, embodied by the flame of the Peace Torch that the runners are carrying through your municipality.

The Peace Run is an inspirational journey; one that has spread peace, solidarity and understanding across Europe and the world since 1987, and which now spans 100 nations on six continents.

It is my hope that the flame of the Peace Torch will kindle the spirit of oneness, solidarity and friendship in all the people that hold the Torch aloft.

May we all work together to build a European society based on the values of our common humanity, so we can have a world where peace and harmony are not mere dictionary words, but living realities.Sri Chinmoy

I wish all the runners the very best during their incredible 24,000 kilometre adventure through 49 European countries over the coming months.'

Herman Van Rompuy - The President of the European Council
