1883 Bertram Clough Williams-Ellis born at Gayton, Northamptonshire on 28 May, the second son of the Rev. John Clough Williams-Ellis and Hilda Greaves.

1901 At Trinity College, Cambridge.

1902-03 At the Architectural Association School, London.

1903-05 Executed first buildings: initially small works in Surrey instigated by A.H. Clough, then houses around Cumnor outside Oxford.

1905 Started to produce designs for regional cottage types

1908 Given the old Williams property at Plas Brondanw.

1910 Reed Pond house designed and built for the Country Life competition.

1909-11 In partnership with James B. Scott.

1912 Built Pentrefelin Parsonage; executed designs for village square and public hall at Cushendun.

1911-12 Built Pentrefelin Parsonage; executed designs for village square an public hall at Cushendun.

1913 Commission to enlarge Llangoed Castle, Breconshire, for Archibald Christie, unbuilt project for Stockley Hill.

1914 The "hundred guinea cottage" competition organiesed by St Loe Strachey of The Spectator.

1915 Served in France and Flanders in the Welsh Guards and the Royal Tank Corps till 1918; awarded Military Cross. Married Amabel Strachey with whom he later had two daughters and a son.

1919-23 Produced designs for war memorials, including Coed Coch Memorial Hall, Bushmills Memorial School, Shrivenham Village Centre and the tower at Garreg Llanfrothen.

1920 Began producing designs for medium-sized family houses in the home counties; and laying out his garden at Plas Brondanw. Travel in sweden and Italy.

1921-22 Remodelling of Bolesworth Castle, Cheshire.

1923 Chapel for Bishop's Stortford College, began designs for Glenmona House, Maud cottages and other village buildings at Cushendun for robert McNeill.

1923-25 Appointed a project architect for the British Empire Exhibition, Wembley.

1923-26 Campaign for the preservation of the landscpae garden at Stowe; and designs for classrooms, the chapel, a boarding house and gymnasium for the school.

1925 Designs for First Church of Christ, Scientist, Belfast.

1925-39 Building began on the hotel and campanile group at Portmeirion in North Wales; the resort opened in 1926 and new structures were added annually till 1939.

1926 Additions to Oare House, and garden for Geoffrey Fry.

1927 Plans for redevelopment at Putney ridge, London, Clough's largest urban scheme. house and studio for the painter Oswald Birley in Hampstead.

1928 Published England and the Octopus, a polemic aimed at hlting ribbon development and introducing town and country planning.

1928-29 Alterations at Ashridge for the Bonar Law College.

1930 Moved his office and home to Romney's house, Hampstead, which he decorated. Travle in Italy and Austria.

1933- Modernist buildings, including the Laughing Water Restaurant, Cobham; swimming pool at the Ladies Carlton Club, and additions to the hotel at Portmeirion.

1936 Hercules Hall, Portmeirion , reusing the Jacobean ceiling depicting the Labours of Hercules from Emral Hall.

1937-39 Modernisation of the village at Cornwell, and the creation of the garden and alterations to Cornwell Manor from Mrs A. Gillson.

1939 Closed his London practice at the outbreak of war; thereafter practising from his home in North Wales.

1941 Designs for housing Moss Bay Hill, Workington.

1945 Clough's son Christopher killed at battle at Montecassino, Italy. Made the first Chairman of Stevenage Development Corporation, the first post-war New Town. Plan for Melcomb satellite town. Publications on planning and preservation.

1951-76 Fire at Brondanw destroyed most of the family home and his records; rebuiding of house and additions to the garden and park. vice President of the Council for the Protection of rural Wales.

1954-76 Building restartedat portmeirion. A series of coutry house commissions came to him, mostly in Wales.

1956-70 Began long series of works to house, garden and park of Nantclwyd Hall.

1957-61 Rebuilding of Voelas

1963 Published Portmeirion: The Place and its Meaning, 1963; eightieth birthday celebrations at Portmeirion.

1963-69 Executed Dalton Hall, Cumbria, his last house.

1971 Published Architect Errant.

1972 Kighted in the New Year Honours, the oldest knight ever created at the time.

1975 Diamond wedding celebrations at Plas Brondanw.

1976 Last addition to Portmeirion.

1978 Died at Plas Brondanw on 8 April

1984 Amabel Williams-Ellis died on 27 August
